Military Security

Military security refers to a state in which the country is free from foreign military invasion and war threats, and the capability to maintain a sustained state of security. Military security is not only an integral part of the national security system, but also an important safeguard for other fields of security, including homeland security and overseas interests security.

A strong country must have a strong military, and a strong military is a prerequisite for national security. National defence and military development are the staunch support to national security. We safeguard peace and security, and strong and powerful military forces are pivotal to safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests.

Risks and challenges posed to our country's military security include the interferences by individual countries in our internal affairs and disputes arising from hegemonism and power politics, as well as aggressive military deployments by other countries.

On 1 July 1997, Hong Kong returned to the Motherland. Exactly at the start of the day on 1 July 1997, the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison (Hong Kong Garrison) began its stationing in Hong Kong to fulfil its sacred mission of protecting Hong Kong. As the country's armed force deployed to Hong Kong by the Central People's Government (CPG) of the People's Republic of China (PRC), the Hong Kong Garrison comprises three forces, namely the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. It represents a significant manifestation of the state sovereignty, a major force in safeguarding "One Country, Two Systems" and a cornerstone to maintain Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, and carries with it a great responsibility with a glorious mission.

As Hong Kong citizens, we should fully understand the important role of the Hong Kong Garrison in the defence of our country and Hong Kong, and actively support its activities, such as participating in "PLA Open Day" and other activities to enhance our military knowledge and understanding of the Hong Kong Garrison. In addition, in the event of any suspected leakages of military security information, we should immediately report to the National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force.
