Ecological Security

Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. Ecological security refers to a state in which the ecological environment essential for a country's survival and development is free from or relatively free from destruction or threats, and the capability to maintain a sustained state of security by addressing major internal and external ecological problems to sustain such a state of security. It covers the security of water, land, atmosphere, biological species, etc. Ecological security is not only related to the daily life and physical wellbeing of the people, but also directly affects the country's economic development as well as its long-term prosperity and stability. It concerns the rise and fall of a country and the survival of a nation.

A sound ecological environment is the most inclusive public benefit. To safeguard ecological security, it is necessary to enhance comprehensive management of the ecological system, build a strong ecological security shield, holistically conserve and systematically manage all mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands and deserts, strengthen conservation of the ecological environment, improve the construction of an ecological civilisation system, and promote pollution prevention and control, environmental protection, recycling and low-carbon development.

The HKSAR fully and faithfully implements the civilised ecological thought of the country, coordinates economic and social developments and strives to win the battle in pollution prevention and control, continuously improves the quality and stability of the ecosystem, enhances the ecosystem governance and modernises such capability, thereby enhancing the capability to safeguard ecological security. Through enhancing Hong Kong's regional ecological security, we contribute to the ecological security of our country.

As Hong Kong citizens, we must contribute to protecting the environment in our daily work and life by refraining from littering, reducing waste, and embracing low-carbon and green travel; we must also protect the ecosystem and refrain from wantonly killing wild animals or destroying wild plants.
